This old capitol was built in 1884 and burned in 1921. The new capitol construction started in 1924.
The angle of this view is so much like that in the Tuck above, it is likely they were made from the same photograph.

This was the first state capitol in Charleston. It was built in 1869-70 and was used as the capitol until 1875. It was again used for state government when it was incorporated into the second Charleston capitol in 1884.

This is the capitol built in Wheeling in 1874 and used until the capital was moved again to Charleston in 1885. It had many city and county uses after that. In this view, it is the City Building.

When the capital returned to Charleston in 1885, this capitol building was being constructed on the site of the first Charleston capitol, incorporating the old building into the new. It burned in 1921.
